There will also be in-depth discussions about the themes selected as challenges. Developers will then start creating actual prototype mobile applications using the HP Anywhere platform.

Hewlett-Packard Company ("HP") is pleased to present the HP Mobile Enterprise Hackathon (the "Hackathon"). The Hackathon is governed by the Hackathon Rules set out below. By entering the Hackathon, you agree to abide by the Hackathon Rules and decisions of HP and the Hackathon judges. The Hackathon will be judged by a panel of experts throughout the tech industry including top entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and thought leader judges.
Here are the Hackathon Rules:
  1. Overview: The Hackathon is designed to have contestants leverage the HP Anywhere platform to design prototype mobile apps for the workplace of the future. Of all the things technology is expected to revolutionize by 2020, perhaps the biggest is the thing we call work. The way in which we create, collaborate and communicate will change. Utilizing HP Anywhere, you’ll solve issues including: human interaction, work/life balance, and resource management.
  2. Venue and Date: The Hackathon will take place at PARISOMA, 169 11th Street, San Francisco, from until .
  3. How to Enter: You may enter the Hackathon by filling out the registration form at https://hphack.eventbrite.com/. You must enter the required information accurately, and accept the terms and conditions displayed as part of the registration process. There is a $25 per person fee to enter. All entries must be received by HP on or before . It is solely your responsibility to ensure that you are properly registered. HP will not be responsible for any lost, delayed, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, damaged or undeliverable entries, or any delay or failure to transmit, process, receive or consider entries.
  4. Eligibility: The Hackathon is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (and D.C.) who are at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry. Employees of HP and any of their parent and affiliate companies, participating Hackathon vendors or anyone otherwise connected with the Hackathon as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible. The Hackathon is subject to all applicable national, federal, state, municipal, territorial and local laws, directives and regulations and is void where prohibited.
  5. Your Application: In developing your Application you in connection with the Hackathon, you must:

    • Find ways for technology to help preserve the human experience in an increasingly fragmented and virtualized workplace.
    • Develop tools to help make Enterprise applications more accessible through mobile devices — all while preserving a good work/life balance.
    • Provide solutions to help companies be better stewards of the planet’s resources by helping them better manage office space, equipment, employees, and energy — all while reducing costs.

    Your Application must also:

    1. (a)
      not contain, depict or refer to any crude, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, disparaging, discriminatory, offensive, illegal or otherwise unsuitable language, activity or other content (all as determined by HP in its sole discretion);
    2. (b)
      not contain, depict or refer to any content which disparages or refers negatively to HP, the Hackathon, or any other person or entity (all as determined by HP in its sole discretion); and
    3. (c)
      not contain any content that violates any law or any third party’s rights (including privacy, personality and intellectual property rights).
  6. Coding Language: All Applications must be built using the HP Anywhere Platform.
  7. Fresh Code: You can use APIs, open source libraries, previously built hardware, sprites, wireframes, and any design elements you’d like, but all back-end code must be new. You can work on the concept for your application before the competition starts, make digital mockups, even database entity diagrams. However, no production assets of any kind can be created until the start of the official competition period on .
  8. Teams: Up to four (4) eligible people may submit a single entry as a team; however, a single person may also constitute a team. Each contestant may belong to only a single team within this Hackathon. Teams are locked at the close of submissions on Saturday, , and no further changes to team membership can be made after that date. Each Team is solely responsible for its own cooperation and teamwork. In no event will HP officiate in any dispute regarding the conduct or cooperation of any Team or its members.
  9. Submissions: Each team must submit their final Application by in order to demonstrate their application to the judges.
  10. Presentations: Presentations will start at . You and/or your team will have 2 minutes to present your idea to the panel of judges and then have a 60 second question and answer period. You'll have access to a microphone, VGA cords, and projector to display your application. The judges will want to see demos of your idea/application, not power point presentations.
  11. IP: HP is not claiming any ownership rights to your entry and HP and/or contestants are free to pursue and further develop any ideas with or without each other. However, by submitting your Entry, you are granting HP an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to: (i) use, review, assess, test, and otherwise analyze your Application and all its content in connection with this Hackathon; and (ii) feature your Application and all its content in connection with the marketing, sale, or promotion of this Hackathon (including but not limited to internal and external presentations) in all media (now known or later developed). You further agree to sign any necessary documentation that may be required for HP and its designees to make use of the rights you granted above.
  12. How You Will Be Judged: The judges are looking for ideas and applications that shape the future workplace using HP Anywhere APIs. The idea or application must focus on mobile solutions that the judges determine can be developed into a working product within the next 6 months. Judging will be based on how creative, simple, and impactful the hack might be.

    1. Creative: Are you building something that no one has seen before?
    2. Simple: Can you explain the value proposition in 2 sentences or less?
    3. Impactful: How impactful can this idea be on the vertical it’s built for?
    The presentations will be evaluated on the quality of work and the judges' faith of being it being a fundable idea. Winners will be audited before winning to ensure hacks were created during the weekend.
  13. Prizes:

    * Incubation and Mentoring Details: The winning team from the Hackathon will receive 5 months of professional and technical mentoring and coaching from the HP Anywhere platform development team. Specifically, a system architect and product manager will each be available at least 1 hour per week to help the winning team iterate and evolve their winning concept. They will be able to share their extensive enterprise software design, development and market expertise to help the team grow their concept into a viable enterprise solution. They will also support the winning team’s presentation at the HP Anywhere Developer conference running alongside Apps World 2014.

    ** HP Anywhere Developer Conference: Hackathon Winners must travel (at their own expense) to and from the HP Anywhere Developer conference running alongside Apps World 2014. HP is not responsible for providing transportation, accommodations or expenses to Hackathon winners to attend the HP Anywhere Developer Conference.

    Incubation Option: HP Team reserves the right to offer to purchase the team’s winning Application at any time after the completion of the Hackathon. The winning team agrees to have good faith discussions with HP about a potential purchase. Any such purchase will only occur upon terms mutually agreeable to HP and the winning team.

  14. Winners:

    Winners and/or winning teams will be announced in person at the Hackathon at the conclusion of judging on .

    If you are confirmed as a winner:

    1. (a)
      You may not exchange prizes for cash or any other merchandise or services. However, if for any reason an advertised prize is unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value; and
    2. (b)
      You may not designate someone else as the winner. If you are unable or unwilling to accept your prize, we may award it to the next highest scoring Team/entrant; and
    3. (c)
      If you accept a prize, you will be solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting the prize; and
    4. (d)
      Unless otherwise noted, all prizes are subject to the manufacturer’s warranty and/or terms and conditions; and
    5. (e)
      HP is not responsible for any dispute regarding prize dispersal among team members.

Miscellaneous: HP has the right to disqualify any team or team member who violates the Hackathon Rules or who it believes is cheating or is threatening, harassing any other team or team member or HP affiliate. If for any reason the event is not capable of running as planned, HP reserves the right to cancel or stop the Hackathon or change how the Hackathon is run. The judges’ decisions are final and uncontestable.
  17. Law: These are the official Hackathon Rules. The Hackathon is subject to applicable laws and regulations. The Hackathon Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over the HP and/or the Hackathon. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of the Hackathon Rules or the rights and obligations as between the contestant and the HP in connection with the Hackathon shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of California including procedural provisions without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions.
  18. Disputes: All disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Hackathon, prizes or the Hackathon Rules will be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in San Clara County, California.
  19. Privacy/Use of Personal Information: By participating in the Hackathon, you: (i) grant to the HP the right to use your name, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address ("Personal Information") for the purpose of administering the Hackathon, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the winners; and (ii) acknowledges that HP may disclose your Personal Information to third-party agents and service providers of the HP in connection with any of the activities listed in (i) above. HP will use your Personal Information only for identified purposes, and protect your Personal Information in a manner that is consistent with HP's Privacy Policy at: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/privacy/privacy.html.
